Adopted in 2011 when South Sudan became the world's newest country. The black represents the people, the red symbolizes blood shed for freedom, the green stands for the land, the white stripes represent peace, and the blue triangle represents the Nile. The gold star symbolizes unity.
South Sudan's flag is based on the flag of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement, which led the independence struggle.
