Taiwan's flag, known as the Blue Sky with a White Sun on a Wholly Red Earth, features a red field with a blue canton containing a white sun with twelve triangular rays. The blue and white sun represents the spirit of progress, the twelve rays symbolize the twelve months and twelve traditional Chinese hours, and red represents the blood of revolutionaries.
The white sun on Taiwan's flag was originally designed by Lu Haodong in 1895 for the revolutionary movement that eventually overthrew the Qing Dynasty in 1911.
Adopted: 1928
