Tyrol

statesbicolorwhitered

The flag of Tyrol is a horizontal bicolor of white over red, featuring the state coat of arms in the center. The arms display a red eagle with golden crown and claws on a white field, with a green wreath (Ehrenkränzlein) adorning its breast. This Tyrolean eagle (Tiroler Adler) dates to the 13th-century counts of Tyrol and is one of Austria's most recognizable heraldic charges. The eagle's distinctive green wreath is a unique feature not found on any other heraldic eagle in Austrian or German tradition.

Tyrol hosted the Winter Olympics twice in Innsbruck (1964 and 1976), and the region's Brenner Pass has been the most important Alpine crossing between northern and southern Europe for over two thousand years.
