Upper Austria
statesbicolorwhitered
The flag of Upper Austria is a horizontal bicolor of white over red, identical in layout to the Austrian national flag but distinguished by the state coat of arms in the center. The arms feature a divided shield: the dexter half shows a golden eagle on black (the Habsburg imperial eagle), and the sinister half displays two red chevrons (pales wavy) on white, representing the Erzherzogtum (Archduchy) ob der Enns. The white-over-red colors echo the national Bindenschild legend of Duke Leopold V at the Siege of Acre.
Upper Austria's capital Linz transformed from a heavily industrial city into a cultural hub, hosting the annual Ars Electronica Festival, one of the world's premier showcases for art, technology, and society.
