Vienna

statesbicolorredwhite

The flag of Vienna is a horizontal bicolor of red over white, the traditional colors of the city since medieval times. The coat of arms displays a white cross on a red shield, a simple but ancient charge dating to the 13th century. Vienna is both a city and a federal state (Bundesland), similar to Berlin and Hamburg in Germany. As the capital and largest city of Austria, Vienna has been the seat of Habsburg power for centuries, and its red-white colors echo the Austrian Bindenschild legend of Duke Leopold V's blood-stained tunic at the Siege of Acre during the Third Crusade.

Vienna has been voted the world's most livable city multiple times by the Economist Intelligence Unit and Mercer, thanks to its exceptional public transport, cultural offerings, and quality of life.
