Red Cross

internationalredcrosswhite

The Red Cross flag is the inverse of the Swiss flag: a red cross on a white background. The simple design was adopted to identify medical personnel and facilities on the battlefield. Henry Dunant chose this design as a tribute to Switzerland, where the first Geneva Convention was signed in 1864.

The Red Cross emblem is one of the most recognised symbols in the world and is protected under international humanitarian law. Misuse of the emblem is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.
