Adopted in 1981, the flag is royal blue with narrow red stripes at top and bottom and the national coat of arms in the center. The coat of arms features two woodcutters, a mahogany tree, and the motto 'Sub Umbra Floreo' (Under the Shade I Flourish).
Belize's flag is one of only two national flags in the world that prominently feature human beings as a major design element.
