Glarus

cantonsfiguresaintred

The flag of Glarus depicts Saint Fridolin, the Irish missionary who Christianized the region, walking on a red background. He is shown as a pilgrim carrying a knapsack and staff, dressed in dark robes with a golden halo. Glarus is one of the few Swiss cantons whose flag features a full human figure, making it immediately recognizable among the cantonal collection.

Glarus is one of only two Swiss cantons (along with Appenzell Innerrhoden) that still practices the Landsgemeinde, an open-air assembly where citizens vote by raising their hands.
