Adopted in 1959 upon independence. The orange represents the savanna in the north, the white stands for peace, and the green symbolizes the forests of the south. The design mirrors the Irish flag in reverse.
The flag is often confused with Ireland's flag, which has the same colours but in reverse order (green, white, orange).
