Belgium
europetricolourvertical-stripes
The Belgian flag is a vertical tricolour of black, yellow, and red. The colors were taken from the coat of arms of the Duchy of Brabant, featuring a yellow lion with red claws on a black field. The flag was adopted after Belgium's independence from the Netherlands in 1831.
The Belgian flag's proportions are officially 13:15, making it nearly square, though it is often displayed in the more common 2:3 ratio.
Adopted: 1831
