Esbjerg's coat of arms features a linden tree with two anchors, representing the city as one of Denmark's major harbours. The design is based on the old seal of the Skast district, known since 1556, and was officially granted in 1903.
Esbjerg is one of Denmark's youngest cities, founded in 1868 specifically as a port after Denmark lost its harbours in Schleswig-Holstein in 1864.
Adopted: 1903
