Næstved's coat of arms features two keys representing St. Peter (from the monastery founded in 1135), a crown added in the late 13th century, and wavy lines symbolising the Suså river. Based on the oldest seal from 1280.
Næstved's medieval monastery, Herlufsholm, was converted into one of Denmark's most prestigious boarding schools in 1565, where it continues to operate today.
Adopted: 1280
