Community of Madrid

communitiesstarsredwhite

The flag of the Community of Madrid is a solid crimson red field bearing seven white five-pointed stars arranged in two rows. The seven stars represent the stars of the constellation Ursa Major (the Great Bear), which is visible over the Guadarrama mountain range, and they also correspond to each of the seven administrative areas of the region.

Madrid's seven stars and bear emblem on the city coat of arms are linked: the bear (oso) and the stars reference the constellation Ursa Major, which means 'Great Bear.'

Adopted: 1983
