communitieschainsredgold

The flag of Navarre is a red field bearing the coat of arms of Navarre at the center: a golden chain network arranged in an orle, cross, and saltire pattern with a central emerald. This chain motif commemorates the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212, where King Sancho VII of Navarre broke through the chains surrounding the Almohad caliph's tent.

The chains of Navarre are said to be the actual chains that protected the tent of Caliph Muhammad al-Nasir at the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, which King Sancho VII personally broke through.
