Rogaland
countiescoat of armscrossred
The coat of arms of Rogaland county features a golden cross on a red field. The cross is composed of five golden squares arranged in a cross pattern, derived from the arms of the medieval Rygjafylke, one of Norway's original petty kingdoms. The red field symbolizes the region's Viking heritage and its historical importance as a center of power in western Norway.
Rogaland is home to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), a flat-topped cliff rising 604 meters above the Lysefjord, and Stavanger, which became Norway's oil capital after North Sea petroleum was discovered in 1969.
