Central Ostrobothnia
regionscoat of armsmartenblue
The coat of arms of Central Ostrobothnia (Keski-Pohjanmaa) also features the golden sable on a blue field, continuing the Ostrobothnian tradition. This is Finland's second-smallest region by population, centered on the coastal city of Kokkola. The region combines Finnish and Swedish-speaking communities and maintains strong connections to both agricultural and maritime traditions.
In 1854, during the Crimean War, the people of Kokkola captured a British naval landing party's boat, which is still displayed in the city's English Park as a trophy.
