The coat of arms of Lapland features a wild man (or savage) in natural colors holding a club, standing on a blue field. This traditional heraldic figure dates back to the 16th century and represents the indigenous peoples and wild nature of the far north. Lapland is Finland's largest and northernmost region, famous for its Arctic wilderness, the Northern Lights, and as the official home of Santa Claus.
Finnish Lapland is home to the official Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, which receives over 500,000 letters from children worldwide each year.
