Fiji
oceaniaunion jackbluecoat of arms
Adopted in 1970 upon independence from Britain, the Fijian flag features a light blue background with the Union Jack in the canton and the national shield on the fly side. The shield displays a golden lion holding a cocoa pod, along with panels showing sugarcane, a coconut palm, bananas, and a dove of peace.
Fiji chose a lighter shade of blue than Australia and New Zealand to represent the Pacific Ocean surrounding the islands.
Adopted: 1970
