Friuli Venezia Giulia

regionseaglegoldblue

The flag of Friuli Venezia Giulia displays a golden eagle on a blue field, a design rooted in the heraldry of the historic Patria del Friuli. The eagle, shown with wings spread and facing right, is a powerful heraldic symbol dating back to the Patriarchate of Aquileia, which governed the region for centuries during the Middle Ages. This autonomous region in Italy's northeastern corner borders Austria and Slovenia, and its flag reflects the blending of Italian, Germanic, and Slavic cultural influences.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of Italy's five autonomous regions with special statute, and its capital Trieste was one of the last territories incorporated into Italy, joining only in 1954 after a period of Allied occupation.
