Kanagawa

prefectureskanjibluered

The flag of Kanagawa features a red mon emblem on a blue field. The emblem is a stylised kanji character ็ฅž (kami/shin, meaning 'god' or 'divine'), the first character of Kanagawa written in an older form. The bold red symbol against the deep blue evokes the prefecture's maritime heritage along Sagami Bay and its historical significance as the site where Japan opened to the West.

Kanagawa was where the Convention of Kanagawa was signed in 1854, ending Japan's over 200-year policy of national isolation.
