Negeri Sembilan

statesyellowblackred

The flag of Negeri Sembilan is a combination of black, red, and yellow. The design features a yellow field with a black triangle at the hoist and a red band between them. Yellow represents the Yang di-Pertuan Besar (ruler), black symbolises the people, and red represents the warriors. The state's name means 'Nine States' in Malay, referring to the nine districts that originally formed the confederation. Negeri Sembilan is unique among Malaysian states for practising the Adat Perpatih matrilineal customs brought by Minangkabau settlers from Sumatra.

Negeri Sembilan is the only Malaysian state that practises the Adat Perpatih matrilineal inheritance system, where property and clan membership pass through the female line.
