North Brabant
provinceschequeredredwhite
The flag of North Brabant displays a red and white chequered pattern (checky) derived from the arms of the medieval Duchy of Brabant. The checky pattern is overlaid with the Brabantine coat of arms featuring a golden lion on a sable (black) shield. This ancient heraldry connects the province to the historic Duchy of Brabant, which was one of the most important territories of the medieval Low Countries. The bold red and white checks make it instantly recognisable.
North Brabant is the birthplace of Vincent van Gogh, who was born in the small town of Zundert in 1853.
