Schwyz

cantonscrossredwhite

The flag of Schwyz is a red field with a small white cross in the upper left (canton) corner. The red color is one of the oldest cantonal colors in Switzerland, and the white cross was added later to distinguish it from other red banners. Schwyz gave Switzerland its name — 'Schweiz' in German — and the national flag's red-and-white color scheme derives directly from this canton's banner.

The name 'Switzerland' (Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera) is derived from this canton, which was one of the three founding cantons of the Swiss Confederation in 1291.
