UNHCR

otherbluehandsfigure

The UNHCR flag features the UN's light blue background with a white emblem showing two hands cupped protectively around a human figure, enclosed within the UN laurel wreath. The protective hands symbolise the organisation's mandate to safeguard refugees, while the figure represents the displaced people the agency serves.

UNHCR was originally intended to be a temporary agency with a three-year mandate. More than 70 years later, it continues to protect and assist over 100 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
