The flag of Manus Province represents this island province in the Admiralty Islands group north of the mainland. Manus is the smallest province by population and features a maritime culture centred on fishing and ocean navigation. The island was a major US naval base during World War II and later housed a controversial Australian immigration detention centre. The indigenous people are skilled seafarers and canoe builders.
Manus Island was the site of a massive US Navy base during World War II that at its peak housed over one million Allied servicemen, dwarfing the island's native population.
