The flag of West Highlands Province represents the third most populous province, centred on the highland town of Mount Hagen. The province was reduced in size when Jiwaka Province was carved from it in 2012. Mount Hagen is famous for its annual cultural show, rivalling the Goroka Show in Eastern Highlands. The province is a major coffee-producing area and the gateway to the western highlands region. Traditional highland warfare and tribal disputes remain part of the cultural landscape.

The Mount Hagen Cultural Show features spectacular 'singsing' performances where tribes compete to display the most impressive traditional costumes, body paint, and dances.
