The flag of Chimbu Province (also known as Simbu) features symbols representing the highland culture of this mountainous province in the central highlands. Chimbu is one of the most densely populated provinces and is known for its rugged terrain and vibrant sing-sing ceremonies. The province takes its name from the Chimbu River and is inhabited primarily by the Chimbu people, renowned for their elaborate body decoration and traditional mud men performances.

The Asaro Mudmen of Chimbu Province cover themselves in grey clay and wear terrifying masks to frighten enemies — a tradition said to date back centuries.
