The flag of Timor-Leste (East Timor) has a red field with a black isosceles triangle bearing a white star at the hoist, overlaid on a larger yellow triangle. Red represents the struggle for liberation, black recalls the obscurantism to be overcome, yellow denotes colonialism, and the white star is the guiding light for peace.
Timor-Leste's flag was originally adopted in 1975 when independence was first declared from Portugal, then readopted when the country gained independence from Indonesia in 2002.
Adopted: 2002
