Adopted in 1964 when Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged. The green represents vegetation, the blue symbolizes the Indian Ocean, the black diagonal stripe represents the people, and the yellow borders stand for mineral wealth.
Tanzania's flag is a combination of elements from the former flags of Tanganyika (green and black) and Zanzibar (blue), merged after unification.
