The Gwynedd flag features a quartered field of green and gold with golden eagles and lions. The design comes from the arms of the medieval Kingdom of Gwynedd, the most powerful of the Welsh kingdoms. The eagles and lions represent the royal house of Aberffraw.
The Kingdom of Gwynedd was the last Welsh kingdom to fall to the English Crown, holding out until 1283 when Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last native Prince of Wales, was killed.
