A blue vertical stripe on the hoist side bearing a white star, the letters N and C in gold, and two gold scrolls with dates (May 20, 1775 and April 12, 1776), flanked by horizontal red and white stripes.
The two dates on the flag commemorate the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (1775) and the Halifax Resolves (1776), both early declarations of independence from Britain.
