Western Australia
australiaaustraliastateblue ensign
The flag of Western Australia is a British blue ensign with the state badge on the fly side. The badge features a black swan facing left on a golden or yellow disc. The black swan is the official bird emblem of Western Australia and a powerful symbol of the state, reflecting the abundance of black swans found by early European explorers along the Swan River, which gives Perth its famous riverside setting.
Western Australia's flag was the last of the original six state flags to be officially adopted in its current form, not receiving royal approval until 1953 despite using the black swan emblem since the 1870s.
Adopted: 1953
