The Wiltshire flag features a green field with a white Great Bustard — a large bird that was once native to Salisbury Plain. The bustard was driven to extinction in England in 1842 but has since been successfully reintroduced in Wiltshire.

The Great Bustard, Wiltshire's county bird, is the heaviest flying bird in Europe, weighing up to 18 kg. A reintroduction programme on Salisbury Plain has brought them back to England.
