The flag of Bangladesh features a red disc on a dark green field. The green represents the lush vegetation and vitality of the land, while the red disc symbolizes the rising sun and the blood sacrificed for independence. The disc is slightly offset toward the hoist to appear centered when the flag is flying.
The original 1971 flag had a yellow map of Bangladesh inside the red disc, but it was removed in 1972 because it was difficult to reproduce accurately on both sides.
