Pará
statesbicolorstarblue
The flag of Pará features a horizontal bicolor of dark blue over red, with a large white star at the center. The blue represents the night sky over the Amazon, red symbolizes the courage and blood of the Cabanagem revolt (1835-1840), and the white star represents the state's place in the Brazilian federation. The bold, simple two-color design with a central star makes it one of the most striking and easily recognized flags among the Brazilian states.
Pará is home to Marajó Island, the world's largest river island, which is roughly the size of Switzerland and sits at the mouth of the Amazon.
Adopted: 1889
