Mordovia
republicsmaroonredgold
The flag of Mordovia features a dark red (maroon) field with a narrow white stripe and narrow blue stripe near the bottom, with a golden eight-pointed star at the center. The eight-pointed star, or rosette, is a key symbol in Mordvin folk art representing the sun and the source of life. Dark red symbolizes life, vitality, and the blood ties of the Mordvin people, white represents spiritual purity, and blue represents the sky. The Mordvin people comprise two distinct groups — the Erzya and the Moksha — who share this Finno-Ugric homeland along the Volga.
Mordovia hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in its capital Saransk, putting this small Volga republic on the global sporting map.
