The flag of Santa Catarina features a green field with the state coat of arms at the center, rendered on a white diamond shape. The coat of arms includes a green shield bearing a red Phrygian cap over a gold star, flanked by laurel branches and topped by a golden eagle. The Phrygian cap symbolizes freedom and the republic, while the eagle represents strength. The diamond shape echoes the Brazilian national flag's central design element.
Santa Catarina hosts Oktoberfest in Blumenau, the largest German festival in the Americas, reflecting the massive German immigration to the state in the 19th century.
Adopted: 1953
