Sergipe
statessaltirestargreen
The flag of Sergipe features a green field with two yellow diagonal stripes forming an 'X' (saltire) pattern, with a white star at the center where the stripes intersect. The green represents the state's vegetation, yellow its mineral and agricultural wealth, and the white star symbolizes the state's place in the Brazilian federation. The saltire design makes this one of the more distinctive Brazilian state flags with its crossed diagonal bands.
Sergipe is the smallest Brazilian state by area — you could fit it inside the state of Amazonas more than 100 times.
Adopted: 1920
