Tocantins

statessunradiantblue

The flag of Tocantins features a blue field with a large golden-yellow sun with rays at the center, set within a white horizontal stripe. The blue represents the rivers and sky, white stands for peace, and the golden sun symbolizes the new dawn of the state's creation. Tocantins is Brazil's newest state, carved from the northern portion of Goiás in 1988 by the new constitution. The radiant sun motif reflects optimism and the bright future envisioned for this young state.

Tocantins is Brazil's youngest state, created by the 1988 Constitution, and its planned capital Palmas is the last major planned city built in Brazil after Brasília.
