Miyazaki

prefectureskatakanabluewhite

The flag of Miyazaki features a white mon emblem on a blue field. The emblem is a stylised katakana character ミ (mi), the first syllable of Miyazaki, rendered as three horizontal strokes within a circular frame, creating a design that resembles a rising sun over the Pacific. The blue field represents the warm Pacific Ocean waters along the prefecture's subtropical coastline.

Miyazaki is said to be where the sun goddess Amaterasu's grandson descended from heaven to earth, making Takachiho Gorge one of Japanese mythology's most sacred sites.
