Northwest Territories
canadacanadaterritoryshield
The flag has a wide white center panel flanked by two blue panels on either side. The territorial shield of arms is centered in the white panel. The shield features a wavy blue diagonal line representing the Northwest Passage, a green area for forests, red for the tundra, and a white fox head at the top. The blue panels represent the region's many lakes and waterways.
The Northwest Territories flag was designed by Robert Bessmertniy of Margaret, Manitoba. The diagonal blue line on the shield represents the Northwest Passage, the fabled Arctic sea route that explorers sought for centuries.
