Obwalden

cantonskeybicolorred

The flag of Obwalden is divided horizontally into red (top) and white (bottom), with a red and white key in the center pointing upward. The key is the attribute of Saint Peter, the patron saint of the canton, and has been the heraldic symbol of Obwalden since at least the 14th century. The red-over-white division reflects the canton's historical ties to the original Swiss Confederation.

Obwalden and Nidwalden were historically a single canton called Unterwalden, one of the three founding members of the Swiss Confederation.
