Svendborg's coat of arms depicts the city as a harbour and coastal town, with a crescent and moon as symbols of eternity. The design is based on the oldest known seal from 1362. The current version was officially granted in 2008.
Svendborg remains one of Denmark's most active maritime towns and is the gateway to the South Funen Archipelago, a popular sailing destination with over 50 small islands.
