Castilla y Le贸n

communitiesquarteredcastlelion

The flag of Castilla y Le贸n is quartered with alternating symbols: a golden castle on a red field representing Castile, and a purple lion rampant on a white field representing Le贸n. This quartered design dates back to the union of the crowns of Castile and Le贸n in 1230 and became one of the most recognizable heraldic arrangements in Spanish history.

The castle-and-lion quartered design from Castilla y Le贸n can be found in the royal arms of Spain and even appears in elements of the coat of arms of many Latin American nations.
