Balearic Islands

The flag of the Balearic Islands consists of four red stripes on a golden-yellow background, derived from the historic Senyera, with a purple-violet stripe on the hoist side bearing a white castle with five towers. The castle represents the fortress heritage of the islands and the violet stripe distinguishes it from other Senyera-based flags.
The white castle on the violet stripe represents the historic Kingdom of Majorca, which existed as an independent realm from 1231 to 1349.
