The coat of arms of North Savo (Pohjois-Savo) also features a black bull rampant, sharing the historic Savo bull emblem with South Savo. The bull is depicted with golden horns and hooves on a yellow field, crowned with a golden crown. The two Savo regions share this ancient symbol but are separate administrative units. North Savo is centered on Kuopio, a major city on the shores of Lake Kallavesi.
North Savo's capital Kuopio is famous for kalakukko, a traditional Finnish fish-filled bread baked inside a rye crust, considered one of Finland's most distinctive regional dishes.
