Satakunta

regionscoat of armsbearblack

The coat of arms of Satakunta displays a black bear rampant with a golden collar on a blue field. The bear is one of Finland's most culturally significant animals, revered in Finnish mythology as the king of the forest. The name Satakunta derives from an old Finnish word meaning 'hundred,' referring to a medieval administrative unit. The region sits on Finland's western coast along the Bothnian Sea.

Satakunta is home to Old Rauma, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring one of the largest unified wooden towns in the Nordic countries.
