Adopted in 1978, the flag of the Federated States of Micronesia features a light blue background representing the Pacific Ocean, with four white five-pointed stars arranged in a diamond pattern. Each star represents one of the four federated states: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae.
The flag's design was influenced by the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands flag, which had six stars representing all the trust territory districts.
