Adopted in 1958 upon independence from France. The red represents the sacrifice of the people, the yellow symbolizes the sun and wealth, and the green stands for vegetation. The flag uses pan-African colours in vertical stripes.
Guinea's flag is the exact reverse of Mali's flag — Guinea has red-yellow-green while Mali has green-yellow-red.
