Calabria
regionscoat of armsbluewhite
The flag of Calabria features the regional coat of arms on a white background. The emblem shows a stylized column or pillar topped by a cross, set against a blue shield, with a golden border. The design evokes Calabria's ancient Greek heritage — the region was a central part of Magna Graecia. The cross and column together symbolize the region's Christian and classical roots, while the blue represents the surrounding Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas.
Calabria is home to the Riace bronzes, two extraordinary full-size Greek bronze statues from around 450 BC that were discovered by a snorkeler off the coast in 1972.
